Practice Emergency Drill
“Practice Emergency Drill” to be held 5/24/13

Per Commissioner’s Regulations requiring an early dismissal drill each year, the Heuvelton Central School District will be dismissing students 20 minutes early on Friday, May 24, 2013 at 2:30 p.m.

Mikayla Thompson a senior was recently notified that she won first place (and a $300 prize!) in the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA) Young Lawyer's Section's Civic Essay and Poster Contest for her poster. Schools within 29 counties across New York were invited to participate in this contest.

Ms. Whalen was notified of the contest in October of last year and created a Constitution project based off of it for both her 11th & 12th grade classes. After completion, she chose one winning essay and one winning poster to send in for submission to the contest. Submissions were submitted in February of this year.

Mikayla's name will be noted on the YLS webage & the next edition of the Young Lawyer's Section publication Electronically-In-Touch. Here is a link to their website: http://www.nysba.org/AM/Template.cfm?Section=Young_Lawyers_Home&Template=/CustomSource/SectionHome.cfm&Sec=YOUN

If you see Mikayla congratulate her on this impressive accomplishment! Her poster addressed the 26th Amendment, which lowered the voting age to 18. Congratulations Mikayla!!
